Featured Seller: Dress Code

The other week, my friends Lian & Tiptip called me for an imprompt shoot for their clothing line, Dress Code. Please excuse my skillz and focus on the cute clothes instead haha!

You know who's bad?

I'M BAD. I should be brainstorming for my feasibility study right now. Instead I'm blogging again.

It's just that everyone's trying to look, or rather DRESS, like the King of Pop. Rhinestones, gloves, blinged out military jackets, badges, shoulder pads... I have some cool ideas for future products. Who knew Jacko could be so inspirational?

This year, I shared my birthday with the death of a legend. If i had known earlier, I would have asked everyone to dress up like him in my dinner.
MJ, I want you back!

Featured Seller: Ready for Rain

I have always been a sun worshipper, ready to toil and play under the security of sunshine. However, I also have had very memorable moments in this bipolar weather and during those July-September showers. I have played in the rain, ran through it, danced in it and faked sleep because of it... Well i wouldn't want everyone to know EVERYTHING about me, haha. But if I had it my way, it would only rain at night during sleeping time. The sound of that first rain drop hitting my windowsill, followed closely by the rising pitter-patter of rain drops is the most effective sleeping pill. Too bad Mother Nature doesn't let anyone tell Her what to do. So I simply try to live by the Scout's motto, always ready to brave and march through the rain.

Readyforrain.com sells hand-painted my+brolly umbrellas and rain skimmers (ballet flats you can wear during rain.) I got to participate in their shoot, and here are some pictures that weren't officially used but ones I liked.

For more on rainy day style guide, check readyforrain.com and plueysmanila.com.

P.S. Bend&Snap doesn't sell these items. Go to the links instead and inquire yourself. :) Love, Risa

Project 9: The Tiara Fits. (SOLD OUT!)

When women were younger, the idea of being a princess was a dream. A wish your heart makes, as Cinderella happily sings. I imagined a fairy tale kingdom, bathed in lavender and pink where you had unlimited supply of pets, talents and gobs of attention. Perhaps, that’s why we all went to ballet school. As young girls, we all hoped to evoke the same grace and poise in our frou-frou and tights, just like Disney Princesses.

Still my favorite Princess.

But as you grow up, you realize that being a princess is difficult… especially for those around you. That sitting pretty waiting for your prince is boring and impossible. We were introduced to a new line up --- Mulan, Leia, Padme, Xena and Fiona, beautiful princesses who doubled as fairy godmothers, conscious that we must fight off evil spells and chase dreams ourselves. Recently, the nation Kingdom of BendSnap, per Royal decree, has ordered those of royal mind and spirit to look like one.

Jewels & Copper Wire Headband, P200.

ONE PIECE ONLY.

See, even stars wanna wear something like it! Haha.

Project 7: The Arithmetic of Accessorizing

This week, I've been experimenting on some new stuff to show in the bazaar. With a good soundtrack and some new materials to work on, I've conjured up new accessories. This time, it's all about our favorite grade school accessory and Manhattan Princesses' choice of helmet, headbands.

And now, on to my beautiful arithmetic:

My NEWEST ONE-OF-A-KIND head piece!
Denim Flower Headband
P250

Pink Headband with denim flower and lace. Equally quirky and feminine, the flower headband also has pink gems.
World, meet Dani, my smart Engineer-friend. Thanks Dani! :)

Or better yet, drop by our bazaar this Saturday at LGV where I'll be displaying my stuff. I'll post details soon!

DIY: Recess Time Well Spent

Looking back on it, 4 or 5 years can go really fast.
One day you’re sizing up your classmates and professors, and the next day you’re absolutely certain about where you stand in the classroom pecking order. And for most, going back to school stirs up familiar feelings of anxiety and grief, as well as the sweetest memories of seeing friends, buying new supplies and composing new-year resolutions. One of mine is to be a savvier shopper and start making my own things.

OOPS! Sorry, I forgot to take "before" photos of my remodeled drawstring bucket bag. :)

Indeed, I’m beginning this semester in a very nostalgic mood, already squeamish at the idea that 4 months from now, I’ll be done with school.

Nothing New.

If not for the Vietnam War, I totally see myself living in the swinging sixties. The Beatles, tie-dye, and people who don't give a damn about combing their hair. But the hippie attitude and sixties style is still alive, especially in my blog.
Channel them fashionable hippies with bend&snap head scarves, beads, batik prints and psychedelic art.
Oh, and last Saturday was our exhausting but very successful Plueys shoot. I jumped at the opportunity of being around people with professional cameras and girls who were all dressed up. And my photoshoot invasion follows. Presenting, the newest addition to the blog:
My Purple and Blue Floral Scarf
